Port Washington teacher wins the Twin City Chamber of Commerce Educator of the Year Award.
Kristin Burrier, 3rd grade Math teacher at Port Washington Elementary, was honored by the Twin City Chamber of Commerce with the 2022 Educator of the Year Award at a ceremony held in Dennison on June 7, 2022.

Mrs. Burrier teaches 3rd grade Math at Port Washington Elementary. She has spent her entire 21 year teaching career at Port Washington Elementary School. She views her calling as teaching children, not as teaching content. She makes an overt effort to build positive relationships with her students by being personable and getting to know them as individuals. She is adamant that her students not just know how to do math but understand it. She tailors lessons to each students unique learning style by using various approaches including technology, paper-pencil, and/or hands-on manipulatives.

Last year 86% of Mrs. Burrier’s students who passed the 3rd Grade State Math Test earned accelerated or advanced scores. Her approach in the classroom has proven what a positive influence she has in her classroom and among other teachers.
